Ah, the idyllic hut! We read about it as a child. It is standing somewhere in a dark forest, it is waiting for adventure. It stands on an uninhabited island where the sun always shines. We swim the whole day, every day. We make hats from palm leaves and eat ice cream out of coconuts. We sleep in hammocks. We remain 10 years old for the rest of our lives.
ARCHITECTURE WILL, AT LEAST INITIALLY, BE A MEANS OF EXPERIMENTING WITH A THOUSAND WAYS OF MODIFYING LIFE -IVAN CHTCHEGLOV
Dimension_A is idyllic, small with dream-like qualities. When we open the door the curved roof above the entrance is low and it feels a bit dark. But we see light coming from the top-light above the staircase. The light pulls us towards the main room.
We see a large polycarbonate wall that filters the light and the views in the living room. A tree outside casts its shadows onto this silk-like wall.
The curved ceiling of the floor above creates a space that from each angle makes the room feel different. At night the LED lights on the side will make this half round element float in space. The interior space creates its own context.
As the building is made mostly out of wood it is relatively easy to build. Most of the components are pre-fabricated. Polyurethane spray foam and triple glazing will make this a super insulated shell. Solar panels on the roof provides all the energy needed.
