There is a quote by Hilbersheim about the single room as a factor of urban configuration. He wrote this in 1927, his idea being that the elementary cell — the single room — would be the driving factor of urban configuration in large cities. This quote has been haunting me for years: as I have witnessed for myself in Tokyo, no truer words have been written.

WE TURN THE CUBE AND IT TWISTS US

This project involved an office for a group of three related marketing companies who would share reception and meeting rooms. We designed this reception/meeting room configuration as three free standing spaces. Each room has a yellow tinted window, as a reference to the coloured views of the world that a marketing firm presents to both clients and consumers. Inside these meeting rooms, we printed large panoramas at the same level as the windows: the West room has images of Kyoto, while the South shows Okinawa and the East displays pictures of Tokyo’s Shinjuku ward.
